How does PCOS affect Women’s Fertility?

PCOS can affect Women’s fertility in different ways. It is one of the most common reasons for woman has trouble to get pregnant in this condition. PCOS is a hormonal problem that interferes with the women’s reproductive system.

PCOS is a common condition related to hormones in which the ovaries do not always release an egg at the end of the menstrual cycle. It affects a woman’s ovaries & the reproductive organs, which produce estrogen and progesterone hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. The ovaries also produce a small amount of male hormones called androgens.

It causes a woman’s body to produce a higher level of estrogens than normal levels of androgens. These hormones are usually male hormones because men have much higher levels of androgens than women.

Ovulation problems are usually the primary cause of infertility for women with PCOS. It may not occur due to an increase in testosterone production because follicles on the ovaries do not mature.

Even if ovulation occurs, any imbalance hormones may prevent the lining of the uterus from developing properly to allow for implantation of the mature egg.

Due to imbalanced hormones, ovulation and menstrual periods can be irregular. Unpredictable menstrual cycles can also make it difficult to get pregnant.

Fertility is one of the main complications of PCOS. There are different types of risk factors such as

  • Endometrial Cancer
  • Depression
  • Weight Gain
  • Diabetes
